The City of Dallas, Park & Recreation Department selected McCarthy Architecture to participate in a bond-funded project involving the upgrade and renovation of the City’s public golf courses.  This project consisted of an interior and exterior renovation to the clubhouse at Grover Keeton Park.  The 4,000 square foot facility was built in 1975 and required updating to accommodate accessibility issues as well as renovations to offset 22 years of heavy public use.  New entrances were created to more efficiently gather golfers from the parking areas and to direct traffic flow to the staging areas for teeing off.  A prominent vertical element, in the form of a clock tower, was added at the main entrance of the facility.  The interior was completely gutted and redesigned to accommodate the new entry points, and to present a greater focus on retail, security, staff functions and tournament groups.  The design recognizes the high abuse nature of this building type with a careful selection of materials that can withstand extensive public use.
