McCarthy Architecture was selected to assist The City of Dallas Park and Recreation Department in the renovation of one of its oldest golf course clubhouses, Stevens Park. A new tournament pavilion, as part of a total course renovation, was designed to fit in a narrow but prominent location adjacent to the existing clubhouse.
It was important to the Park Department that the new pavilion reflected the design style of the historically significant WPA era design of the clubhouse. At the same time, the club professional wanted an expressive heavy timber aesthetic infused into the design. The result was a design solution that married the two styles and takes on a commanding presence seen from the 18th fairway.
