Big Thicket Fire Management Facility is a 6,000 square foot National Park building in Southeast Texas.  This project has a large apparatus bay for fire and park management vehicles, offices and training rooms. The height of the space facilitates training activities for the firefighters stationed at the facility.  The fire management facility also has technology capabilities that meet and exceed the requirements of the office staff and training center.  A metal building structure was selected to accommodate a very tight federal budget.  To conserve energy use, McCarthy Architecture incorporated interior glazing to work in concert with open air spaces and a clerestory to allow air and natural light to permeate the structure.  The presentation to the public is that of a recognizable National Park building that is responsible and economical.
