McCarthy Architecture was recently selected to design a new 20,300 square foot building for added curriculum support space at International Leadership of Texas’ Garland high school campus. This facility features classrooms, an ICC 500 required storm shelter, administration offices and conference space, a multipurpose space with full commercial kitchen, restrooms, locker rooms, and a competition room. The building takes inspiration from the Eighth and I Marine Barracks in Washington, D.C., with a central tower, full exterior arcade and extensive brick/cast stone detailing along the front façade of the building. The replication of the Eighth and I aesthetic required visits to the Washington D.C. site where extensive measuring and recording of existing detailing was undertaken.
