McCarthy Architecture was selected to assist the First Baptist Church of Wylie convert a 1940’s factory into a youth assembly and church administrative office facility. A due diligence investigation of the 41,000 square foot facility was performed to assess the structure, MEP systems & building envelope. A comprehensive list of maintenance issues was developed as part of the overall program. Because the new occupancy was considerably different than the original building there were many life safety challenges to address as well. While the exterior remained predominantly intact, the interior was gutted and reprogrammed to meet the expanded program. The primary use of the new facility is to serve as the church’s youth ministry, so the plan centers on a large open assembly area capable of seating 500 with a stage. Additional youth areas, classrooms, full commercial kitchen, restrooms, and meeting rooms are located adjacent to the main assembly area. The new facility also includes the church administrative offices that serve the entire church campus.
