Southern Methodist University is one of the most iconic campuses in the Dallas-Fort Worth area & for years, McCarthy Architecture has played a quiet but meaningful role in shaping its spaces.

Our partnership with SMU includes over 40 projects spanning nearly every building type and user need. From major renovations to finely tuned upgrades, our work includes:

  • Classrooms, labs, and seminar spaces in Fondren, Heroy, Embrey, Hyer, and Simmons Halls

  • Student housing renovations at Daniel Apartments

  • Improvements to performance and arts spaces like McFarlin Auditorium, Owen Fine Arts Center, and Blue Sky Studios

  • Strategic upgrades to athletic facilities, administrative offices, food services, and ADA restrooms

  • Lighting and infrastructure renovations that enhance the campus experience without altering its historic charm

Each project reflects our commitment to thoughtful, responsive design that supports learning, connection, and long-term campus growth.

We’re honored to continue helping SMU build what’s next + while preserving what makes it so special.
