Designing for Communication: Pioneer Bible Translators in Dallas

McCarthy Architecture partnered with Pioneer Bible Translators to design its Global Sending and Sign Language Center in Dallas, Texas, a multistory facility created to support the organization’s growing global ministry and work within Deaf communities.

Pioneer Bible Translators works to make Scripture accessible to people around the world, including through sign language Bible translation. Because signed languages rely heavily on visual communication, the facility required a thoughtful approach to visibility, movement, and spatial orientation.

The architecture incorporates tactile, visual, and spatial elements to help users navigate the building and communicate more naturally within it. These considerations informed how spaces connect and how people experience the facility as they move throughout the building.

The completed center provides Pioneer with dedicated space for visual sign language translation as well as training and missionary support. Located at Pioneer’s Dallas campus, the facility supports work that reaches communities around the world.

For McCarthy Architecture, the project represents what happens when architecture begins with understanding the people who will use it. Every space has a purpose, and in this case, the building itself became another tool for communication.
