Modern Multi Generational Home Design for Contemporary Family Living

Creating a home for multiple generations under one roof presents unique challenges and opportunities. This private residence, Spanning about ~10,000 square feet, will be a contemporary compound designed around the rhythms of daily life and the natural ways the family gathers. It reimagines multi-generational living by blending shared spaces with distinct private areas, all connected through modern design.

Rethinking Multi-Generational Living

Traditional multi-generational homes often feel like one large house with multiple bedrooms. This project takes a different approach by organizing the residence into separate living areas that function like a family compound. Each generation has its own space, allowing for independence and privacy. At the same time, shared outdoor areas encourage connection and interaction.

This layout respects the need for both togetherness and solitude. Family members can retreat to their own quarters when desired but also come together easily in common spaces designed for socializing and shared activities. This balance is key to making multi-generational living comfortable and sustainable over time.

Multiple Kitchens for Family Traditions and Practicality

The project includes four kitchen spaces, each designed to support the family’s cooking traditions and daily use. Multiple kitchens allow for larger family meals without disrupting the main living areas.

An outdoor kitchen adds another layer of functionality, extending cooking and dining activities beyond the interior. This space is perfect for casual gatherings, barbecues, or simply enjoying meals in the fresh air.
